The Answer for Atheism
Intellectual Righteousness presents a logical argument for an Infinite Origin of all that is finite, uses the foundational reference point for defining values and proving equations as an example for context, and insists the Universal Origin is worthy of the highest esteem. While the logic is sound and consistent with what we have reason to believe, there are no words that can compel acceptance.
There will be plenty of opportunities to misinterpret meanings and ignore key points that dismantle your rebuttals. Is this an exchange of ideas or contest of wills? Can you put your views side by side with what will be expressed and be an objective judge on what is reasonable?
If you cannot, there is no need to go further. No amount of sensible reasoning can change your mind. If you want to explore what logic can reveal concerning the concept of God, I invite you to an understanding that is basic but defies expectation.
Finite, Indefinite, and Infinite
Instead of contemplating complex concepts about causality that conjure up unimaginable scenarios, let’s address the need for a creator by considering measurement. The very nature of measurement implies having a point of origin. It is impossible for anything that can be counted to have always been.
The contradictory idea of being able to measure something infinite comes from confusing potential infinity with actual infinity, which conflates infinite with indefinite. Potential infinity represents something ongoing that could go beyond our cognition but is still finite. Actual infinity is complete and unchanging and cannot be measured at all.
The law of conservation gets used to defend the idea of measurable infinity, but that assumption seems to be based on flawed logic. The evidence shows neither matter nor energy have the ability to create or destroy. It is more reasonable to recognize the limitations we witness than to think there is evidence that a contradiction can exist.
Not every effect requires an external cause, and existence itself does not require an origin. Measurement, by definition, must begin somewhere. Since it is impossible for something to act before it exists, anything with a beginning cannot be its own cause. Because anything measurable would have a beginning, the origin of what can be counted must be immeasurable itself.
We exist, so it is difficult to fathom a reality without space, time, matter, or energy. Without the ability to perceive or imagine, a reality prior to their existence seems impossible. It is easy to pretend sensory evidence is superior to a self-consistent and non-contradictory concept, but the existence of magicians expose that as an illusion.
Trust in the logical process and your ability to reason. Existence is eternal, so something must have always been. Anything that can be measured is disqualified because measurement itself must have a point of origin. Only something with no countable attributes can be eternal and the origin of all else. It is easy to assume there is no way to relate to such a reality, but the reference point for defining all numbers in math mirrors an infinite origin in reality.
Zero: The Placeholder for the Infinite Origin of the Finite
In math, there is a value that is so insignificant that it can only be used as a placeholder or represent emptiness or lacking. Because it has no value of its own, it makes the perfect reference point to define all other numbers and equations. Zero’s role in math as illustrated on the number line is parallel to the uncaused cause in reality.
Focusing on alternative uses for zero is a distraction from the point being made. The comparison between zero and the Infinite Origin of the finite is not meant as praise for zero. A placeholder is useful, but what makes zero important is what only it can hold a place for.
To argue that zero as an absolute reference point has no basis in reality because math is a human construct is logically inconsistent. The idea that our most objective means of describing reality(math) has a foundational reference point(zero) that doesn’t also describe reality because we invented the sounds and symbols for the concepts is detached from reality. Upon discovery, it gets revealed we had been implicitly using zero all along without realizing it.
Trying to use a lack of tangible evidence for the reality zero represents as evidence that zero is a mental unit without a foundation in reality totally misses the point. There should be no tangible evidence for a universal origin because finite evidence of the infinite is an impossible ask. Actual infinity has no beginning or end and cannot be measured. Any attempt to assign a finite value to the infinite is a blatant contradiction of their very natures.
Zero, as the absence of magnitude, aptly represents actual infinity. It can only be known according to what it isn’t and its importance to what is. Zero exists not as a number with value, but as the necessary reference point upon which all numbers are defined.
Focus on this use of zero alone. It gives us a concept foundational enough to act as confirmation and relatable enough to allow description. Just exploring all the implications of zero, perspective, and absolute value gives more insight on the origin of the universe than faith or materialism. As the reference for defining all value, zero is absolute, infinite, perfect, and eternal.
Why God?
Though zero itself lacks numerical value, the reality it represents surpasses everything finite. The origin of all that exists must be superior to what has been originated or what is imagined. If anything deserves the highest esteem, it is the Infinite Origin—thus, the title God.
Because we tend to include the power of choice with superiority, gods get personified, but consciousness, intelligence, and activity are not required of a deity. The true defining trait of a deity is someone’s worship or extreme admiration and reverence. A god is one of multiple objects of worship for those who cannot narrow it down to one. The God is believed to be the only one deserving said worship for those who can.
Referring to the Infinite Origin as God does not mean assigning It human traits. It is giving the Creator the highest honor possible. Comparing God in reality to zero in math should eliminate any attribute with magnitude from any description.
Intellectual Righteousness accepts the burden of proof. We use the law of non-contradiction to show the finite must have an origin that is infinite. We use the foundational reference point for defining all values in math as an example for confirmation and description. We call the Infinite Origin God because the creator is worthy of higher esteem than the created or imagined.
God is to reality what zero is to math. It is the analogy that uses the parallels between zero’s role in defining numbers and the creator giving reality the attributes numbers apply to in order to gain clarity and context. If certainty about God is possible, why settle for doubt? It’s time to explore the unseen constant of existence.
